According to Plaza Home Mortgage’s notice, the incident began on or around February 17, 2026, when an unauthorized actor gained access to one employee’s computer and then illegally accessed the company’s information systems. Plaza says its security controls detected the activity and that it acted immediately to stop the attack and remove the threat actor. The company’s investigation found that the intruder may have obtained personal information, though the notice says the affected data varied by person and did not necessarily include every listed category. For customers, the potentially exposed information included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license or other government identification information, and mortgage loan application or servicing information; outside reporting also states that employee information may have included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and employee-account usernames and passwords. In response, Plaza said it launched an investigation, removed the threat actor, and added organizational, technical, and administrative security measures.
