What happened in the Minnesota Epilepsy Group data breach?

Minnesota Epilepsy Group, P.A. discovered on April 7, 2026 that an unauthorized third party may have accessed its computer network, after which it began an internal investigation, secured its systems, notified law enforcement, and hired a forensic security firm to help determine what happened. The investigation found that the unauthorized party had access to the network at various times between March 16, 2026, and April 10, 2026, and may have accessed or acquired certain files maintained by Minnesota Epilepsy Group. After reviewing the potentially affected files, the organization determined on May 18, 2026 that some personal information was involved, including affected individuals’ names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Minnesota Epilepsy Group offered affected individuals two years of Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B credit monitoring and identity protection services, along with guidance on monitoring accounts, obtaining credit reports, placing fraud alerts, and using credit freezes. Minnesota Epilepsy Group has also said it is enhancing technical security measures to reduce the risk of a similar incident in the future.

Based in Roseville, Minnesota, with additional outpatient locations listed in Hudson, Wisconsin, and Fargo, North Dakota, the group provides services such as outpatient evaluations, long-term EEG monitoring, neuropsychological and psychological care, surgical evaluation, research participation, and advanced diagnostic tools including magnetoencephalography. Its program is designated as a Level 4 epilepsy center, the highest level recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, and it works with hospital partners including Allina Health United Hospital and Children’s Minnesota.
