Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit
Posted: August 27, 2024 -- Attention, victims of the Young Consulting data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Young Consulting.
Young Consulting data breach summary:
Approximately 954,000 individuals were affected by the Young Consulting data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, insurance policy data, and insurance claim data.
Young Consulting, LLC ("Young Consulting") has announced a data security event that may affect the personal information of certain individuals linked to Blue Shield of California ("Blue Shield") and other associated entities. Although Young Consulting claims there is no evidence of misuse of the compromised information, Young Consulting has shared details about the incident, the measures taken in response, and resources available for individuals to protect their information.
According to Young Consulting, the incident began on April 13, 2024, when Young Consulting noticed technical issues in its computer systems. Immediate actions were purportedly taken to isolate the systems, and a cybersecurity forensics firm was engaged to investigate. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor had accessed Young Consulting's network between April 10 and April 13, 2024, and had exfiltrated some data from the computer system. The review to identify the affected data and individuals is ongoing, but by June 28, 2024, Young Consulting confirmed to Blue Shield that files containing potentially sensitive information had been accessed.
The information at risk apparently varies by individual and may include names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and insurance policy or claim details. In response, Young Consulting claims it has taken steps to secure its systems, notified law enforcement, and is reviewing its data handling practices to prevent future incidents.
As a result of the data breach, Young Consulting is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
