Wilkes University Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 27,000 individuals were affected by the Wilkes University data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, address, date of birth, student ID number, Social Security number, driver’s license number or state identification number, financial account number, financial aid information, health insurance policy number, and/or medical alert information.

Wilkes University Data Breach Details:

In late September 2025, Wilkes University determined that an outside actor accessed parts of its network during an approximately two-day window in January of 2025, and that certain systems contained personal data. The categories of information vary by person but may include identifiers and sensitive details such as names, birth dates, student IDs, Social Security or driver’s license numbers, some financial and financial-aid data, and certain insurance or medical-alert information.

Beginning October 8, 2025, written notifications were mailed to potentially affected people; those whose Social Security numbers were implicated were offered complimentary credit-monitoring, and the school reports it contained the threat, secured its environment, and engaged external cybersecurity specialists.

As a result of the data breach, Wilkes University is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
