Texas Centers for Infectious Disease Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 19,000 individuals were affected by the Texas Centers for Infectious Disease data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license number, medical record number, Medicare/Medicaid data, health insurance data, and/or medical or treatment data.

On July 19, 2024, Texas Centers for Infectious Disease Associates (TCIDA) reportedly detected irregular activity within its computer network. The organization says it immediately began securing its systems and brought in external specialists to investigate the matter. The inquiry purportedly uncovered indications that certain data might have been accessed or downloaded without proper authorization. In response, TCIDA says it initiated a full review of the data that could have been involved.

This review reportedly concluded on June 17, 2025, and notification of the incident followed shortly after. After discovering the incident, TCIDA says it worked to understand the scope of the incident and identify any impacted information. To strengthen its defenses and reduce the likelihood of a repeat event, the organization also claims to have introduced additional cybersecurity measures.

As a result of the data breach, Texas Centers for Infectious Disease is offering 12 to 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
