In mid-February of 2026, TAK Broadband, a fiber optic and broadband network infrastructure company, disclosed a security incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive data, which took place between August 2, 2025, and August 12, 2025. Approximately 20,000 individuals were affected by the TAK Broadband data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, Social Security number, driver’s license/state identification number, passport number, biometric data, date of birth, payment card data, financial account data, medical data, and/or health insurance data. As a result of the data breach, TAK Broadband is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

TAK Broadband Data Breach Details:

TAK Broadband LLC, reportedly experienced a cybersecurity incident in the summer of 2025. Staff noticed unusual activity on the company's computer systems on August 11 of that year. With help from outside cybersecurity experts, the firm launched an investigation that confirmed an unauthorized party had entered certain network areas between August 2 and August 12 of 2025, gaining access to and removing some stored files.

This incident reportedly resulted in the exposure of about 228 gigabytes of information, including various business records. After months of carefully checking the accessed materials, a process that ended on January 14, 2026, TAK Broadband identified that personal details for 20,648 people had been exposed. The main types of information involved were names and Social Security numbers, though some records may also have contained dates of birth, identification numbers, or other sensitive details.

The company says it quickly contained the issue, notified law enforcement and state regulators, and has updated its security procedures to reduce the chance of similar events. Written alerts began going out to affected individuals by mail on February 19, 2026. TAK Broadband is offering a full year of free credit monitoring and identity protection services through a third-party provider. The firm advises people to check their bank statements, credit reports, and insurance explanations regularly for anything out of the ordinary.
