Strategic Education Data Breach Details:

Strategic Education, Inc. recently appeared in a Maine Attorney General data breach filing related to an incident reported on June 1, 2026. According to the filing, the company experienced an external system breach, described as hacking, involving its computer systems.

The incident reportedly began on February 23, 2026, when an unauthorized actor gained access to Strategic Education’s servers. The access appears to have continued through February 25, 2026, during which certain files were accessed or acquired. The available public information does not identify the hacker, name a ransomware group, or explain the specific technical method used, such as stolen credentials, phishing, or exploitation of a software flaw. Strategic Education discovered the breach on May 21, 2026, nearly three months after the unauthorized access began.

The exposed information reportedly included individuals’ names together with sensitive identifiers, including Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and passport numbers. Strategic Education began sending notice letters to affected individuals on May 29, 2026, and the Maine filing indicates that the company offered credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Kroll.
