Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

On February 15, 2024, South Texas Oncology and Hematology (STOH) detected unusual activity on its network, revealing a cybersecurity breach. By February 19, 2024, STOH identified that personal information on its servers might have been compromised. In response, STOH claims it immediately disconnected network access and enlisted a specialized third-party cybersecurity firm to secure the environment and conduct a forensic investigation, which is ongoing.
According to STOH, preliminary findings indicate that some employee and patient information was on the affected systems. STOH has hired a third party to help identify potentially impacted individuals and information types.
STOH claims it promptly took steps to contain and remediate the incident, employing protective and corrective measures to safeguard its systems and data integrity. The IT team isolated and rebuilt affected machines, updated security tools, and implemented new automated protections. They also restored and verified backups for malware before bringing systems back online. STOH has reported the incident to the FBI and plans to cooperate with any law enforcement investigation.
It is unclear if South Texas Oncology and Hematology is offering credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals at this time.
