Sax Data Breach Details:

Sax LLP says it detected unusual activity in its network on August 7, 2024, moved quickly to secure its systems, and brought in independent cybersecurity specialists to investigate. According to the firm’s notice materials, the investigation concluded that certain Sax data may have been accessed or acquired without authorization, prompting a broader review to determine whose information was involved and to prepare notifications.

In a Maine Attorney General breach-notification filing, the portal entry lists 228,876 people affected overall. The filing packet included with Sax’s Maine submission states that notices to Maine residents were sent by mail on December 16, 2025 and that the types of information potentially involved can vary by individual, but may include date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license/state ID number, and/or passport number.

Sax’s sample notice also says the company completed its review and notification-prep process on December 1, 2025, and that it had no evidence of actual or attempted misuse at the time notices went out. In terms of response steps, Sax says it implemented added safeguards to reduce the risk of a similar event, notified the FBI, and offered affected individuals complimentary identity protection services through Epiq (the Maine materials describe a 12-month offering that includes credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, credit protection, identity restoration, and lost wallet assistance), along with a dedicated call center for questions at 855-720-3117 Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time.
