Posted: December 13, 2024 -- Attention, victims of the SRP Federal Credit Union data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by SRP Federal Credit Union.

SRP Federal Credit Union Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 240,000 individuals were affected by the SRP Federal Credit Union data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: Name, Date of Birth, Social Security Numbers, Driver’s License numbers, Financial data (e.g. account number, credit or debit card number).

SRP Federal Credit Union (SRP FCU) recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to its computer systems, potentially affecting personal information. According to SRP FCU, it identified unusual activity within its network and, upon discovery, initiated its incident response protocols, informed law enforcement authorities, and worked to secure its systems.

To investigate the matter further, SRP FCU engaged a forensic security firm to analyze the breach and verify the integrity of its network. The investigation reportedly revealed that an unidentified third party accessed the SRP FCU's systems between September 5, 2024, and November 4, 2024, during which certain files may have been obtained.

According to SRP FCU, the incident did not compromise online banking or core processing systems. Following the breach, SRP FCU claims to have implemented additional measures to strengthen its cybersecurity framework and mitigate the risk of similar occurrences in the future.

As a result of the data breach, SRP Federal Credit Union is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
