Posted: August 25, 2024 -- Attention, victims of the Patelco Credit Union data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Patelco Credit Union.

Patelco Credit Union data breach summary:

Approximately 726,000 individuals were affected by the Patelco Credit Union data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, Driver’s License numbers, dates of birth, and email addresses.

On June 29, 2024, Patelco Credit Union identified a ransomware attack that compromised certain of its computer storage systems. Upon discovery, Patelco claims it immediately acted to mitigate the threat by disabling unauthorized network access, restoring affected data, and initiating a comprehensive investigation. According to Patelco, law enforcement was also promptly informed. Throughout the investigation, Patelco collaborated closely with external cybersecurity experts with relevant expertise.

According to Patelco, the inquiry determined that unauthorized access to Patelco's network began on May 23, 2024, leading to the eventual breach of the databases on June 29, 2024. After a review of the incident, Patelco confirmed on August 14, 2024, that the compromised computer storage systems contained personal data.

As a result of the data breach, Patelco Credit Union is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
