Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit
Posted: June 20, 2025 -- Attention, victims of the McLaren Health Care data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by McLaren Health Care.
McLaren Health Care Data Breach Summary:
Approximately 743,000 individuals were affected by the McLaren Health Care data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical data, and health insurance data.
On or around August 5, 2024, McLaren Health Care detected unusual activity affecting certain McLaren Health Care and Karmanos Cancer Institute computer systems. In response, the organization says it activated its emergency protocols and brought in external cybersecurity experts to investigate the issue, assess the situation, and protect its network infrastructure.
The investigation purportedly revealed that unauthorized access had occurred over a span of several weeks, beginning on July 17, 2024, and ending on August 3, 2024. In the aftermath, McLaren Health Care published public updates on both the mclaren.org and karmanos.org websites and opened a call center to address concerns from patients and community members.
As the examination continued, McLaren Health Care says it conducted a detailed forensic review of the compromised files to determine whether they contained any sensitive data. This analysis reportedly concluded on May 5, 2025. At that point, it was apparently confirmed that the files included personal and protected health information belonging to individuals connected with the organization.
As a result of the data breach, McLaren Health Care is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
