Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by McKenzie Memorial Hospital.
McKenzie Memorial Hospital Data Breach Summary:
Approximately 54,000 individuals were affected by the McKenzie Memorial Hospital data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, address, phone number, email address, Social Security number, driver's license/state ID number, date of birth, medical diagnosis, date of service, patient account number, medical record number, health insurance claim number, health insurance policy number, employee bank account number and/or treatment cost information.
McKenzie Memorial Hospital identified unusual activity within its digital network in mid‑April 2025. A forensic investigation concluded that an unauthorized individual accessed files on the network during the period from April 14 to April 15, 2025. This activity prompted further examination to determine what types of information may have been compromised. On June 19, 2025, the internal review was completed and McKenzie began notifying affected individuals, including through required reports to state authorities.
As a response, McKenzie Memorial Hospital provided notice letters to impacted individuals, including details about what types of data may have been affected, and offered credit monitoring and identity protection services for one year where appropriate. The organization informed law enforcement and initiated steps to strengthen cybersecurity, reviewing and adjusting security protocols, network monitoring, and policies to reduce future risk.
As a result of the data breach, McKenzie Memorial Hospital is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
