Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Lee Enterprises.

Lee Enterprises Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 39,000 individuals were affected by the Lee Enterprises data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: first and last name, as well as Social Security number.

According to Lee Enterprises, on or about February 3, 2025, a suspicious event was identified within its network systems. Following this discovery, the company initiated internal protocols to address the incident and brought in external cybersecurity professionals to conduct a detailed investigation. This investigation found that unauthorized access to certain systems had likely occurred on the same date.

Through the course of the investigation, Lee Enterprises assessed whether personal information had been compromised. This review process determined that specific data may have been accessed or acquired without authorization. The full assessment was finalized by May 28, 2025, at which point the company confirmed the potential exposure of certain individuals’ personal information.

Following the initial discovery, Lee Enterprises claims it undertook actions to evaluate the security posture of its network, determine the scope of the incident, and identify individuals whose information may have been impacted. The company also says it began implementing additional technical safeguards and employee training measures intended to strengthen its data protection efforts.

As a result of the data breach, Lee Enterprises is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to at least some or all affected individuals.
