Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Johnson & Wales University.

Johnson & Wales University Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 22,000 individuals were affected by the Johnson & Wales University data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, and financial account data.

On July 11, 2024, Johnson & Wales University (JWU) became aware of unauthorized activity within its computer network. In response, JWU secured its systems and initiated an investigation. The university engaged digital forensics and incident response specialists to determine the nature and scope of the incident and to identify any information that may have been accessed without authorization.

On August 21, 2024, JWU learned that personal information related to certain individuals may have been involved in the incident. The institution identified and collected contact information for those individuals and enlisted a vendor to assist with notification. This process concluded on September 6, 2024.

Upon discovery of the event, JWU investigated and responded to the incident, assessed the security of its systems, and identified affected individuals. JWU notified federal law enforcement regarding the matter and implemented safeguards and training.

As a result of the data breach, Johnson & Wales University is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
