Posted: August 8, 2025 -- Attention, victims of the Highlands Oncology Group data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Highlands Oncology Group.
Highlands Oncology Group Data Breach Summary:
Approximately 113,000 individuals were affected by the Highlands Oncology Group data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license/state identification number, passport number, credit/debit card number, financial account number, medical treatment data, medical record number, patient account number, and/or health insurance policy data.
Highlands Oncology Group recently identified a cybersecurity incident involving potential exposure of personal information. On June 2, 2025, Highlands Oncology Group reportedly discovered that a cyberattack had affected the accessibility of certain files and internal systems. In response, the organization says it initiated an internal investigation, secured compromised systems, and reported the incident to law enforcement authorities.
Additionally, Highlands Oncology Group claims it retained the services of a cybersecurity firm to conduct a forensic analysis and reinforce network security measures. This investigation purportedly revealed that between January 21 and June 2, 2025, an unauthorized third party had intermittently gained access to the organization's computer network. During this period, the intruder encrypted several files and may have obtained data stored within the compromised systems.
Highlands Oncology Group says it continued to investigate the extent of information potentially involved and worked to mitigate the effects of the incident. Highlands Oncology Group says it has communicated directly with affected individuals to inform them of the event and offer relevant guidance for protecting their information.
As a result of the data breach, Highlands Oncology Group is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
