Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

Great Plains Regional Medical Center Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 133,000 individuals were affected by the Great Plains Regional Medical Center data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, demographic data, health insurance data, clinical treatment data, diagnosis data, and medication data.

Great Plains Regional Medical Center (GPRMC) recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving patient information. On September 8, 2024, GPRMC's computer system reportedly experienced a ransomware attack.

The center reportedly secured its systems and initiated an investigation with assistance from a cybersecurity firm. The investigation found that between September 5 and September 8, 2024, an individual accessed and encrypted files on GPRMC's systems. It was also determined that some files were copied by the individual.

GPRMC claims it restored its systems and resumed operations but found that certain patient information was not recoverable. To prevent future incidents, GPRMC has stated that it will continue to enhance the security of its computer systems.

As a result of the data breach, Great Plains Regional Medical Center is offering free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
