Fort Scott Community College in southeast Kansas recently discovered a cybersecurity incident on November 23, 2025. The school reportedly detected suspicious activity on its computer systems that day and immediately isolated the affected systems. It then worked with its IT team and a third-party cybersecurity firm to investigate, which confirmed that an unauthorized party may have accessed certain network files. The college completed its review of the impacted data and finalized the list of people to notify in late January 2026, then mailed the letters on February 23, 2026.

In response, the college says it secured its systems and began putting in place stronger technical safeguards, enhanced security measures, and updated procedures. It offered every potentially affected person twelve months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Kroll. The notices also included advice on steps individuals could take themselves, such as watching financial accounts and placing fraud alerts or security freezes on credit reports.
