Posted: September 17, 2024 -- Attention, victims of the Express Services data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Express Services.
Express Services data breach summary:
Thousands of individuals were affected by the Express Services data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: Social Security numbers and other sensitive personal information.
Express Services, Inc. ("Express Services") recently provided formal notice concerning a recent cybersecurity incident that may involve certain personal information belonging to some individuals.
On June 21, 2024, Express Services detected anomalous activity within an email account. In immediate response, Express Services claims to have initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the nature and extent of this activity. Express Services' findings purportedly revealed that, between May 7 and June 20, 2024, an unauthorized actor gained access to two email accounts and exfiltrated a limited amount of data. Express Services claims it conducted a review of the compromised data to identify the specific information involved and the individuals to whom it pertained. Express Services obtained contact information for all potentially affected individuals, completing this process on September 4, 2024. On September 13, 2024, Express Services dispatched written notifications via mail to those individuals for whom it had contact information.
Upon discovering this incident, Express Services claims it promptly implemented measures to secure the affected accounts and the broader computer network, and conducted an exhaustive investigation into the matter. Express Services is purportedly reviewing and enhancing existing policies and procedures related to data privacy to mitigate the risk of similar occurrences in the future. Additionally, Express Services claims it has reported this incident to federal law enforcement agencies and is notifying pertinent regulatory authorities as required.
As a result of the data breach, Express Services is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
