Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit
Posted: September 18, 2024 -- Attention, victims of the Elitecare data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Elitecare.
Elitecare data breach summary:
Tens of thousands of individuals were affected by the Elitecare data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: individual contact data, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses or state ID numbers, health insurance data, health data, billing data, claims data, and payment data.
On July 10, 2024, Elitecare detected unauthorized activity within its computer systems and initiated measures to halt the activity. The organization disconnected and powered down affected systems to limit further effects, engaged an external cybersecurity incident response team to supplement its IT resources, commenced an investigation, and notified federal law enforcement agencies.
By July 17, 2024, Elitecare classified the event as a cybersecurity breach and collaborated with the response team to perform a forensic analysis. The investigation revealed that the intruder accessed Protected Health Information (PHI); however, there was no indication that the breach extended beyond the initial unauthorized access.
On September 16, 2024, Elitecare sent data breach notifications to affected individuals with available addresses. In the aftermath of the incident, Elitecare strengthened its policies and adopted additional technological protections to minimize the likelihood of similar occurrences.
As a result of the data breach, Elitecare is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
