Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Posted: August 22, 2025 -- Attention, victims of the Computer Merchant data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Computer Merchant.

Computer Merchant Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 34,000 individuals were affected by the Computer Merchant data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name and Social Security number.

In July 2024, The Computer Merchant faced a cyberattack that targeted its internal network. The organization says it responded by securing the system and restoring operations, which required a full wipe and rebuild of its computer assets. At that stage, the investigation purportedly did not show evidence that personal data had been accessed by unauthorized parties.

In January 2025, the company learned of a claim that information from the earlier incident had been released publicly. The Computer Merchant says it worked to recover the exposed files and brought in a data-review firm to examine their contents. The review results were delivered in May, after which the company began efforts to verify contact details and prepare notifications for affected individuals.

As a result of the data breach, Computer Merchant is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
