A currently UNKNOWN number of individuals were affected by the Communication Federal Credit Union data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, driver’s license data, and financial account data.

On January 11, 2024, Communication Federal Credit Union discovered suspicious activity on its computer network and claims it took immediate action to secure its systems and investigate the issue. According to Communication Federal Credit Union the investigation revealed that an unauthorized third party had accessed part of the network between December 31, 2023, and January 11, 2024. After identifying the files affected by the breach, Communication Federal Credit Union claims to have quickly enlisted a data-review firm to analyze the contents of those files, receiving the results on July 15, 2024.

Communication Federal Credit Union claims it already had security measures in place to respond quickly to such incidents. Communication Federal Credit Union has stated that in response to this data breach, it brought in third-party experts to conduct a thorough investigation and enhance the security of its systems. Additionally, Communication Federal Credit Union notified law enforcement about the unauthorized activity.

It is unclear if Communication Federal Credit Union is offering credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to any affected individuals at this time.
