Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 53,000 individuals were affected by the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, Passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, alien registration numbers, medical data, health insurance data, financial account data, taxpayer identification numbers, usernames and passwords, payment card data, and/or digital/electronic signatures.

According to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, it recently identified suspicious activity within its computer systems and initiated an investigation to assess the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation was conducted with the support of external cybersecurity specialists and internal teams. Federal law enforcement authorities were also notified of the event.

The findings revealed that, on June 6, 2024, an unauthorized actor gained access to certain company systems. Additionally, unauthorized access to specific email accounts used by the organization occurred between April 5 and May 29, 2024, and again from August 28 to August 29, 2024. It was determined that some information within the company’s systems may have been accessed or extracted without authorization.

Following this discovery, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf undertook a process to identify the affected data and associated individuals. After completing this process, the company began notifying potentially affected individuals. In response to the incident, the company implemented enhanced safeguards and reviewed its data privacy and security policies and procedures.

As a result of the data breach, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
