In late-May of 2026, Clarinda Regional Health Center disclosed a security incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive data, which took place on or around October of 2025. Approximately 24,000 individuals were affected by the Clarinda Regional Health Center data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names and Social Security Numbers. Clarinda Regional Health Center Data Breach Details:

Clarinda Regional Health Center announced a data incident in a notice dated May 29, 2026, after determining that information in its network may have been accessed without authorization. According to the notice, Clarinda learned on or around December 15, 2025 that certain data in its network may have been exposed. The organization says it began an investigation, brought in cybersecurity experts, and later found that certain files may have been acquired by an unauthorized actor in or around October 23, 2025. The public notice does not explain the exact technical method of access, such as phishing, stolen credentials, malware, or a specific software vulnerability.

After the investigation, Clarinda reviewed the relevant files with help from a third-party vendor and determined that personal health information was involved. That review and address-gathering process was completed on May 21, 2026, and Clarinda began notifying potentially affected individuals on June 1, 2026. The information varied by person, but may have included names together with sensitive details such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical information, health insurance information, financial account numbers, driver’s license numbers, and taxpayer identification numbers. A filing listed by the Maine Attorney General reported 24,341 total affected individuals.

Clarinda said it took steps to investigate the event, assess the nature and scope of the incident, and strengthen security measures to reduce the chance of a similar event happening again. Its notice advised affected individuals to watch account statements and credit reports, report suspicious activity, consider fraud alerts or credit freezes, and contact law enforcement, state attorneys general, or the Federal Trade Commission if they suspect identity theft.
