Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Posted: August 30, 2025 -- Attention, victims of the Carter Federal Credit Union data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Carter Federal Credit Union.

Carter Federal Credit Union Data Breach Summary:

Approximately 68,000 individuals were affected by the Carter Federal Credit Union data breach, and breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, credit/debit card number, date of birth, driver’s license/state identification number, financial account history, financial account number, health insurance data, medical treatment/diagnosis data, passport number, retirement/401(k) benefits data, and Social Security number.

Carter Federal Credit Union reported that an unauthorized third party briefly accessed its network, and a forensic investigation determined the intruder was able to access certain files between June 25 and July 2, 2025; the incident was reported to the California Attorney General on August 29, 2025. Upon discovery, Carter says it contained and remediated the activity, notified law enforcement, and engaged a forensic security firm to confirm the security of its systems.

As a result of the data breach, Carter Federal Credit Union is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to some affected individuals.
