Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Association of Texas Professional Educators.

Hundreds of thousands of individuals were affected by the Association of Texas Professional Educators data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers (passport data, state ID card data), financial data (account numbers, credit or debit card numbers), and/or medical data.
On February 12, 2024, the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) detected unusual activities on its network. The company claims it immediately cut off network access and enlisted a specialized third-party cybersecurity firm and IT staff to secure the environment and perform a thorough forensic investigation to assess the incident's nature and scope.
According to ATPE, by March 20, 2024, the investigation revealed that some of ATPE's systems had been accessed by an unauthorized user. Following these findings, ATPE reviewed the affected systems to identify the specific individuals and types of information compromised.
Since the incident's discovery, ATPE claims it has swiftly investigated, responded, and ensured the security of its systems. Actions taken include disconnecting network access, changing administrative credentials, installing enhanced security measures, and restoring the website on a Microsoft Azure hosted environment. ATPE has stated that it continues to take steps to mitigate future risks.
As a result of the data breach, Association of Texas Professional Educators is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.
