Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the data breach recently announced by Asheville Eye Associates.
Asheville Eye Associates Data Breach Summary:
Approximately 193,000 individuals were affected by the Asheville Eye Associates data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: sensitive personal data.
According to a recent filing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, Asheville Eye Associates experienced a "hacking/IT incident" on a "network server" that included "unsecured protected health information affecting 500 or more individuals". This information was made available by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services pursuant to section 13402(e)(4) of the HITECH Act.
At this time, very little confirmed information is available regarding the data breach.
It is unclear if Asheville Eye Associates is offering credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to any affected individuals at this time.
