Secret sharing app Whisper has reportedly exposed data related to all individuals who have used the app since its release in 2012.
The leaked data, which was viewable on a non-password-protected database open to the public, included age, ethnicity, gender, hometown, nickname and any group memberships of users. The data also included the location coordinates of the users’ last submitted post, many of which pointed to schools, places of work and residences.
The ability to download all of the data in bulk — and potentially combine it with other sensitive data sets — poses a grave threat to users’ privacy. The primary concern is that the data could be used to identify and blackmail users.
If you believe you are a victim of the Whisper data leak, and would like to participate in a class action lawsuit regarding this data leak, please submit your information via the form on this webpage.
