This investigation revealed that from January 14 to January 18, 2024, an unidentified entity had accessed and extracted files from specific systems within Weirton Medical Center's network.

An examination of the compromised files was conducted to ascertain the nature of the information they contained and the individuals it pertained to. By March 6, 2024, this exhaustive evaluation was concluded, confirming that the files included data related to certain current and former patients. Following the discovery of this breach, Weirton Medical Center claims it swiftly implemented measures to fortify its systems and initiated a comprehensive probe with the help of specialized forensic teams.
