By March 6, 2024, this exhaustive evaluation was concluded, confirming that the files included data related to certain current and former patients. Following the discovery of this breach, Weirton Medical Center claims it swiftly implemented measures to fortify its systems and initiated a comprehensive probe with the help of specialized forensic teams.

To prevent future occurrences, Weirton Medical Center has since enhanced its security protocols. Furthermore, the incident was reported to federal law enforcement and regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ensuring compliance and cooperation in the matter.
