Data Breach Class Action

October 10, 2023 -- Attention: victims of the University Federal Credit Union data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced University Federal Credit Union data breach.

On May 31, 2023, UFCU was alerted by its vendor, MOVEit, about a data breach that gave unauthorized users access to data on its platform. MOVEit, a popular file transfer software, has publicly admitted to the incident and issued fixes. UFCU claims it promptly initiated an investigation, with expert assistance, and found that some of their files were copied and removed from its MOVEit server. By September 15, 2023, UFCU identified that these files might contain personal data. As a precaution, affected individuals are being notified by UFCU and advised about identity protection measures.

As a result of the data breach, University Federal Credit Union is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

Approximately 102,000 individuals were affected by the University Federal Credit Union data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license and/or government issued ID, financial institution name, account number, routing number, IRS PIN, debit and/or credit card number, health insurance data, and/or passport number.
