UNITE HERE
Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

February 24, 2024 -- Attention: victims of the UNITE HERE data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced UNITE HERE data breach.

On October 20, 2023, UNITE HERE detected unusual activities on its computer networks. The organization immediately disconnected its systems and initiated an in-depth investigation to understand the extent and nature of the unauthorized activities. With help from external forensic experts, the investigation aimed to find out if any confidential information was accessed or extracted unlawfully from UNITE HERE's systems. It was found that on October 20, an unidentified individual had breached specific areas of the network.

In response, UNITE HERE swiftly proceeded to examine the documents to identify individuals affected by the breach and informed them about the situation. This examination of the compromised data was completed by December 14, 2023. Following this, UNITE HERE carried out an additional assessment to pinpoint the data owners and associated entities of the affected individuals. After compiling this information, UNITE HERE contacted the data owners and related entities to get permission to inform the impacted parties and the necessary regulators.

Upon recognizing the breach, UNITE HERE promptly took measures to investigate the incident, secure its systems, and determine the individuals at risk. The organization also alerted federal law enforcement. Moreover, UNITE HERE is issuing formal notifications to the appropriate state and federal authorities, as well as to the three principal credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Additionally, notifications are being sent to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and significant media outlets in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

As a result of the data breach, UNITE HERE is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

Approximately 791,200 individuals were affected by the UNITE HERE data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, financial account data, driver’s license, and state identification numbers.
