Data Breach Class Action
October 13, 2023 -- Attention: victims of the Tri Counties Bank data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced Tri Counties Bank data breach.
In February 2023, Tri Counties Bank detected suspicious activity on its computer network and discovered malware that restricted access to specific files. An investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor might have accessed systems storing personal information between February 7 and 8, 2023. According to the bank, it conducted a thorough review, completed on October 9, 2023, which found that customer and employee data, including names and Social Security numbers, were potentially compromised.
The bank claims that immediately upon discovery, it acted to secure its systems, alert law enforcement, and identify individuals who may be affected. The bank has stated that it is implementing added security measures and employee training. Tri Counties Bank is also offering two years of free credit monitoring through Experian and is providing guidance on identity protection.
According to Tri Counties Bank, impacted individuals are advised on placing fraud alerts and credit freezes and are encouraged to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity. The bank has notified relevant state regulators and the three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, about the incident.
As a result of the data breach, Tri Counties Bank is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.
Approximately 8,600 individuals were affected by the Tri Counties Bank data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account data.
