September 1, 2022, Attention: all individuals who have received an unsolicited text message from the Open app.
Individuals across the United States are receiving unsolicited text messages claiming that someone they know would like to chat with them privately. These text messages include a link to join the "Let's Open" community so the person can purportedly take part in the private and anonymous chat. The text messages often look something like this example:
These unsolicited text messages may be a violation of federal law entitling recipients to $500 in damages for each such violation. The Open app is only available for download via Google Play and Apple's App Store.
