Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced Knight Barry data breach.

Knight Barry detected unusual activity in their computer network on August 15, 2023, including the encryption of certain files by malware. According to Knight Barry, the company promptly took measures to secure the network and recover the affected systems, alongside initiating an in-depth investigation to understand the extent and nature of the data breach. The inquiry revealed that from July 25, 2023, to August 15, 2023, an external entity had infiltrated Knight Barry's systems, potentially accessing or extracting data.

In response, Knight Barry claims it undertook a detailed examination of the potentially compromised data to ascertain the nature of the data involved and the individuals it pertained to. This examination was completed on January 12, 2024, leading to the realization that the information of some individuals might be at risk.

Following the detection of the breach, Knight Barry claims it swiftly proceeded to scrutinize and bolster the security of its systems, while also identifying and notifying the individuals potentially affected. Additionally, the incident was reported to the relevant authorities. Knight Barry is in the process of enhancing its security measures and has committed to further educating its staff to prevent future occurrences.

As a result of the data breach, Knight Barry is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

Approximately 44,900 individuals were affected by the Knight Barry data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names, Social Security numbers, financial account data, and government issued identification data.
