Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit
February 1, 2024 -- Attention: victims of the JD Gilmour data breach.
Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced JD Gilmour data breach.
On June 29, 2023, JD Gilmour identified potential unauthorized entry into its email system. Following the detection, the company promptly hired an external cybersecurity forensic group to perform an exhaustive examination of its email system to ascertain the extent and characteristics of the breach. The investigation, concluding on August 8, 2023, revealed that an unidentified entity had illicitly accessed an email account belonging to a JD Gilmour staff member.
Subsequently, JD Gilmour contracted an external data analysis provider to scrutinize the contents of the breached email account to check for the presence of sensitive data at the time of the breach. By October 27, 2023, JD Gilmour finalized its review of the data in the affected email account, confirming that sensitive personal data was involved in the breach.
In addition to engaging a specialized cybersecurity firm to perform a detailed forensic analysis to understand the breach's nature and magnitude, JD Gilmour has implemented measures to enhance its security framework to avert future similar incidents.
As a result of the data breach, JD Gilmour is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.
Approximately 6,800 individuals were affected by the JD Gilmour data breach.
Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: health insurance data and Social Security numbers.
