On January 10, 2023, Hilb Group detected suspicious activities within several employee email accounts. The company claims it responded promptly to the incident, initiating an investigation and enlisting the aid of external cybersecurity experts to assess the nature and extent of the data breach. The investigation revealed that from December 1, 2022, to January 12, 2023, an unauthorized individual had accessed employee email accounts.

Following the discovery, Hilb Group claims it undertook an examination of the affected email accounts' contents to identify the information types and the data subjects involved. By October 9, 2023, Hilb Group had finished reviewing the contact details and proceeded to notify the individuals who might have been impacted by the data breach. In response to the incident, Hilb Group claims it promptly secured the compromised email accounts and conducted a thorough investigation to understand the data breach's full scope.

Hilb Group claims it has since implemented additional technical safeguards designed to bolster the security of the data under its care and to mitigate the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future.

As a result of the data breach, Hilb Group is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

A currently UNKNOWN number of individuals were affected by the Hilb Group data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names and Social Security numbers.
