Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

January 8, 2024 -- Attention: victims of the HMG Healthcare data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced HMG Healthcare data breach.

In November 2023, HMG Healthcare discovered a security incident involving unauthorized access to personal health information of individuals associated with HMG Healthcare's nursing facilities, both residents and staff. The breach occurred when cyber intruders infiltrated HMG Healthcare's servers and extracted unencrypted files.

Upon detecting the breach, HMG Healthcare initiated a thorough investigation, implemented measures to reduce potential harm to those affected, and enhanced safeguards to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Efforts were made by HMG Healthcare to prevent the dissemination of the extracted files by the attackers.

While HMG Healthcare endeavored to pinpoint the exact data compromised, it concluded that such determination was impractical. Subsequently, HMG Healthcare has reevaluated and strengthened its policies and practices to bolster the security and integrity of its electronic health information, including upgrading its data protection measures.

At this time it is not known if HMG Healthcare is offering credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals at this time.

At least 75,000 individuals were affected by the HMG Healthcare data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: Name, Date of Birth, Address, Social Security Number, Driver’s License number, Financial data (credit or debit card number, or account number), Government-issued ID number (e.g. passport, state ID card), Health Insurance data, Medical dat.
