Around August 15, 2023, Golden Corral reportedly encountered a data security issue, affecting its computer systems and disrupting corporate operations. The company claims it initiated an immediate response, including an investigation to determine the incident's nature and extent, and efforts to restore the affected systems. This investigation revealed that from August 11 to August 15, 2023, an unauthorized individual accessed Golden Corral's systems, potentially viewing or acquiring business data.

A detailed analysis was performed on the potentially compromised data to check for sensitive information. By January 26, 2024, Golden Corral confirmed that the data set included personal information of certain individuals. In response, the company began to identify and locate the contact details of these individuals to offer assistance and provide direct notifications.

Upon identifying the security breach, Golden Corral acted to investigate, bolster the security of its systems, and pinpoint the individuals potentially impacted. Additionally, the company informed federal law enforcement about the incident and is in the process of enhancing its security measures.

Golden Corral is also notifying relevant state authorities and the major credit reporting agencies—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—about this incident, in compliance with regulatory requirements.

As a result of the data breach, Golden Corral is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

Approximately 183,200 individuals were affected by the Golden Corral data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: names and Social Security numbers.
