Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

December 12, 2023 -- Attention: victims of the CareTree data breach.

Abington Cole + Ellery is investigating the recently announced CareTree data breach.

On August 16, 2023, CareTree detected suspicious activity in its computer systems and promptly initiated measures to secure these systems and minimize operational disruptions. The company launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the extent and nature of the cybersecurity incident. This investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor had accessed certain information within CareTree's computer systems on July 21, 2023, potentially compromising specific data.

Following this discovery, CareTree undertook a thorough process to identify affected individuals and verify their contact details using internal records. This process was completed by October 13, 2023. As a result of the investigation's findings, CareTree is actively notifying individuals whose information might have been accessed or acquired by an unknown unauthorized party. In response to the incident, the company immediately reinforced the security of its computer systems.

Additionally, CareTree is reviewing and enhancing its security policies, implementing further cybersecurity measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company has reported the incident to law enforcement and is actively cooperating with their ongoing investigation. Furthermore, CareTree is informing potentially affected individuals, enabling them to take necessary precautions to safeguard their information. In compliance with legal obligations, CareTree is also reporting the incident to relevant regulatory authorities.

As a result of the data breach, CareTree is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and/or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.

Approximately 5,000 individuals were affected by the CareTree data breach.

Breached data may include, but is not necessarily limited to: name, address, date of birth, driver’s license number, financial account data, health insurance data, medical data (including medications, lab results, diagnosis, or other treatment data), and/or Social Security number.
